Sensor Accessory: Signal Scaler

For the best performance, it is critical to have the range of your sensors optimized before sending them to your interface. Our Signal Scaler gives you control over your sensor signals by providing both gain and offset adjustments. It also converts any high-impedance signals to low-impedance, allowing them to drive the Teabox's inputs.

One common use of the Scaler is to amplify a small, critical, region of a signal needed to control the interactive system. The output can then be fed directly to the Teabox, or the sensor interface of your choice.

As with all of our sensors, we have taken care to make certain that this sensor is of high quality. For the hacker or do-it-yourselfer we also offer a "project version" of this sensor (see the specification sheet for more details), which comes at a reduced price.

Cable Specifications

  • Electrotap P/N: CAB-LF32LF3-3
  • 3 foot (approximately 1 meter) premium quality Canare L-4E5C star-quad cable with braided shielding.
  • Both end connectors are a 3-pin female locking Molex connector.
  • Molex connector layout:
    - Pin 1: Ground
    - Pin 2: Sensor (X) Output

    - Pin 3: 5 Volts
  • This cable can be used to connect an Electrotap sensor to the input of the Scaler. The cable that ships with the sensor can then be used to connect the scaler to the Teabox..

Application Examples

  • Amplifying accelerometers to measure tilt.
  • Amplifying temperature sensors to get higher resolution within a smaller range. Good for making a temperature sensor hypersensitive, i.e. to sense human touch or breath.
  • Amplifying light sensors.
  • Improving the results of non-Electrotap sensors when used with the Teabox.
