IR/Distance Sensor

This device uses infrared technology to sense distance between itself and the nearest surface between 8 and 60 inches. Our version of this sensor includes a conditioner to fully buffer and scale the signal to the industry standard voltage range of 0.25-4.75 Volts, perfect for the Teabox.

As with all of our sensors, we have taken care to make certain that this sensor is of high quality. For the hacker or do-it-yourselfer we also offer a "project version" of this sensor (see the specification sheet for more details), which comes at a reduced price.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This sensor draws a lot more power than most sensors. This results in the Teabox being limited to handling 3 of these sensors at a given time. There are solutions to work around this. Please contact us if you require further information.

Physical Attributes

The T300A is a two part sensor. The IR Unit transmits and receives infrared light, while the Conditioner is an external circuit that treats the signal coming from the IR Unit to make it ready for use by a sensor interface.

Sensing distance to an object.

Application Notes

The field of vision for the sensor is very narrow, meaning that the object being sensed must be directly in front of the sensor. Objects slightly off to one side or the other will not be "seen" by the sensor.
Because this sensor is using infrared wavelengths of light, it is immune to ambient/visible light.
